OVERVIEW

The Gujarat BESS project was awarded to IndiGrid in March 2024 by Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) for the Design, Supply, Installation, Testing, Commissioning, Operation and Maintenance of a 180 MW / 360 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System in Gujarat.

The project was awarded under the tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) route and is being developed on a Build, Own, and Operate (BOO) basis. The Battery Energy Storage Service Agreement (BESSA) was signed in June 2024 for a period of 12 years from the scheduled commercial operation date.

Strategically located to address peak load management and renewable integration challenges in the state, the project will provide critical grid-balancing services, enabling greater penetration of solar and wind power. This project marks one of India’s largest contracted standalone energy storage deployments to date. It is being developed with technology support from AmpereHour Energy and long-term concessional financing from the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
